1) Utilise your curtains
During the day, keep your curtains open and allow the heat in, after all, this is free heating! Once the sun goes down, close your curtains to retain as much of the residual heat as possible. Your curtains will act as another barrier of insulation.

2) Use timers when using your central heating
By using timers for your central heating system, you could save ££’s on your heating bills. Timers can be set to turn on your heating 30 minutes before you wake, for example. You can set the temperature lower also which will reduce energy consumption.
3) Move your sofa
Having the sofa near or blocking the radiator may be great while you’re sitting on the sofa, but once you move you can expect the rest of the room to feel cooler. By sitting in front of or blocking the radiator with a sofa, you’re actually blocking the heat from escaping and heating up the rest of the room effectively.
4) Insulate your home
By insulating your home and especially your roof, you could reduce your energy bills by up to 30%*. Up to 25% of the heat generated in your home is lost through the roof and yet loft insulation is one of the cheapest forms of insulation you can purchase to upgrade your home.

5) Wrap up warm
If you have a hot water tank, ensure that it is properly insulated. By insulating an uninsulated hot water tank, you could save up to £150 a year.
6) Turn down the thermostat
By turning down your thermostat by just 1 degree Celsius, you could save up to 10% on your heating bill. Public Health England recommends a setting of 18 Celsius on the thermostat thus avoiding the negative effects of a cold home and also saving you and your family money.
7) Block out draughts
Seek out all the areas in your home that are prone to draughts and tackle some DIY draught-proofing. Simple measures like this can assist in saving you up to £25 a year and help keep your home warmer for longer.
8) Upgrade your boiler
By upgrading your boiler, your home will not only be more energy-efficient but also far more environmentally friendly. A new condensing boiler could potentially save you up to £350 a year on your energy bills and reduces the risk of something going wrong with your boiler, especially coming into the winter season.
