Keep your curtains closed

Although it may be tempting to open your windows up when it’s warm outside, it could be counterproductive. Doing so can actually increase the internal temperature of your property.  Extra care should be taken If you have metal blinds or dark curtains as these can absorb additional heat.

Open your windows at night

Experts recommend opening your windows at night only and keeping them closed throughout the day. This is advised as the temperature outdoors drops significantly once the sun has gone down and will allow cooler air to circulate around your home.

DIY Air Conditioner

Make yourself a DIY air conditioner using an electric fan and a bowl of ice water. Simply place the bowl of ice water in front of the fan and as the ice melts the cold air will be blown around by the fan working much like a typical air conditioning unit would.

You can also place bowls of water around the property to improve moisture content in the air within your home.

Turn off your tech

Turn off any unused technology including plug sockets as these emit a surprising amount of heat when in use. This will ensure that your bedroom temperature will remain at a regular temperature between 16-21C, allowing you to have a good-quality sleep.

Lights out

Switch off unused lights. Inefficient lights waste up to 90% of their energy as heat energy and as a result, can aid in heating a room. To get around this, simply switch to energy-efficient bulbs that will save you money on your energy bills, reduce your carbon footprint and the amount of heat that the bulbs produce.

Buy house plants

Indoor plants can reduce the internal temperature of your home as they bring moisture into a stuffy room. Areas with green spaces can sometimes be up to a couple of degrees difference in temperature when compared to non-green spaces.
